echo & the bunnymen - "the killing moon" / by Zack Free

it's disappointing that the legacy of echo & the bunnymen is often pared down to a singular song, but if it has to be any song, it might as well be this one. “the killing moon” is a new wave epic, massive and chilling. ian mcculloch’s vocal is wobbly and foreboding, intensified greatly by any number of the track’s motifs: the blood-curdling piano plucks, the gnarled lead guitar riff, or that iconic, swelling strum that rips through the verses. the last two minutes are a pulse-pounding spectacle, a transmogrification that’s as terrifying as it is beautiful
