the cranberries - "ode to my family" / by Zack Free

it's strange that i (re)discovered this song so recently, because my parents used to listen to this album all the time when i was a kid. the one that stuck with me throughout the years was the grunge-indebted “zombie,” and i came across “linger” (which I also love) when i was in middle school. my mom told me that this song was the reason that she bought the album in the first place, and it certainly makes sense; “ode to my family” sounds almost uncomfortably pretty. interestingly enough, it might be the specter of childhood that looms over dolores o’riordan vocal hiccups that gives it a dark air. either way, i could listen to it for days
